The tagline at the end of the commercials is "Don't be left behind" emphasizing the quickness of AT&T's network. It seems obvious the company is trying to make money off of people's want for quick and new information.
I was surprised to see such blatant examples.
I don't find it as surprising that they would use peer pressure as a marketing ploy. Usually phones, and now the ever growing market of smart phones are made to keep in contact. The phone now allows us not only to make calls and text but access a variety of social networking sites to update everyone who is "in". We as a society are that wants to be on top of everything which translates over to our social lives. I see this with the wireless companies now trying to be the best and fastest to deliver 4G internet unto our phones.
