Free Internet

Buy This Satellite  is a non-profit group attempting to raise money in order to bring Internet access to the third world.  One of the quotes on the page explains, "We need to get information to them [the citizens] so they can think for themselves, better their own lives, and not rely on other people's dole."  What does everyone think?  Is this a worthy project?

  1. I think this is an awesome idea for a project, although there are certainly a lot of question marks. How would political leaders of third world countries react to this attempt? I feel many third world countries that have a distaste for American culture would see this as an attempt to further westernize the rest of the world. Either way, in wake of the Egypt situation, this project has a chance to really take off. Open access to information is a hot topic right now. Even Baltimore City built a website for distributing city data sets for anyone to use. Since the data sets are searchable and downloadable, it encourages website and app developers to do innovative things with the new data.
